Teijin Aramid has achieved ISCC
PLUS certification for its Twaron production processes, marking a
significant milestone in its journey to become the most sustainable aramid
producer worldwide. The certification verifies the company s use of alternative,
traceable feedstocks and provides customers with confidence in selecting
lower-impact materials without compromising on performance.
Certified feedstocks for a
transparent value chain
ISCC PLUS is a globally
recognized certification system that ensures the sustainability and
traceability of bio-based and circular feedstocks. For Teijin Aramid, the
certification means that Twaron products produced with certified inputs can
now carry third-party verified claims, giving customers full
transparency and assurance of compliance with international sustainability
standards.
The certification also covers the
use of the mass balance approach, enabling certified and conventional
raw materials to be processed together under strict documentation and auditing
protocols. This allows Teijin Aramid to progressively increase sustainable
content in production while maintaining the high-performance properties of
Twaron .
A key milestone in the
sustainability roadmap
This achievement builds on Teijin
Aramid s ongoing environmental initiatives. Since 2014, the company has reduced
the carbon footprint of Twaron by 28%, and all Dutch production
facilities now operate on 100% renewable electricity. ISCC PLUS
certification adds a new dimension by ensuring that improvements extend not
only to production efficiency but also to raw material sourcing.
As sustainability requirements
increase across industries, we want to ensure our customers have access to
materials that help them meet their own goals, said Hendrik de Zeeuw, Chief
Commercial Officer at Teijin Aramid. This certification provides
measurable, verifiable progress and supports our partners with transparent,
lower-impact material options that continue to deliver reliable performance.
Advancing toward circularity
Beyond sustainable feedstocks,
Teijin Aramid is actively exploring material circularity. In
collaboration with European partners, the company is developing pathways to recover
and reuse end-of-life aramid materials in new industrial applications.
Although still in early stages, these initiatives represent a critical step
toward building a circular ecosystem for Twaron .
With ISCC PLUS certification,
Teijin Aramid strengthens its position as a sustainability leader in
high-performance materials, supporting customers across industries in
reducing their environmental footprint.
