Italian cable innovator Tratos Group has signed a four-year framework agreement with Finland-based Exel Composites Plc for the supply of high-performance carbon-fibre composite conductor cores, securing a minimum 22 million supply commitment through 2029. These advanced composites, integral to next-generation overhead transmission conductors, deliver higher tensile strength, lower thermal expansion, and superior high-temperature, low-sag performance compared with conventional steel cores, enabling utilities to boost line capacity, enhance transmission efficiency, and modernise grids without changing existing tower infrastructure
This strategic agreement strengthens Tratos long-term
conductor programmes and ensures secure access to advanced composite core
technology, supporting our customers in the modernisation and upgrading of
electricity transmission networks worldwide.
Composite conductor cores are a key enabler of the energy
transition. Compared with traditional steel-reinforced designs, carbon-fibre
composite cores offer higher tensile strength, lower thermal
expansion, high-temperature low-sag performance, corrosion resistance and
non-magnetic properties. These characteristics allow network operators to
increase line capacity and transmission efficiency, often using existing towers
and routes.
By integrating Exel Composites continuously manufactured,
quality-controlled composite cores into our overhead line conductor portfolio,
Tratos further enhances its ability to deliver high-performance, reliable and
sustainable solutions for grid upgrades and new infrastructure projects.
This agreement reflects Tratos ongoing commitment to
innovation, industrial partnerships and long-term planning, ensuring continuity
of supply and technical excellence for our customers as investment in power
grids accelerates across Europe and globally.
