Slack & Parr, a global leader in high-precision metering systems, has been commissioned to supply high-precision metering pumps for a major carbon fibre production facility in India, reinforcing critical process infrastructure within the composites value chain.

The project involves the delivery of 21 acrylic metering pumps designed to ensure controlled and consistent flow of polymer during the production of PAN precursor fibres, an essential step in manufacturing high-performance carbon fibre.

The high-accuracy metering technologies have been engineered to deliver a reliable and controlled flow of polymer into the processing line. 19 of the 21 pumps are mounted onto bespoke drive units, each fitted with a special coupling, gear box and electric brake. The contract includes three different-sized pumps 1,000cc/rev, 1,500cc/rev and 2,000cc/rev which will be used in a variety of applications within the new plant.

Carbon fibre produced at the new facility will be used in the region s aerospace, defence and infrastructure sectors.

Neil Anderton, Hydraulics and Pneumatics Director at Slack & Parr, said: We are delighted to be involved in the realisation of this highly ambitious and internationally significant carbon fibre production plant. The project draws on our extensive expertise in the processing of acrylic fibres for the composites and traditional textile industries.

Our experienced design and engineering teams have worked closely with our customer to develop and test a robust and comprehensive metering solution that helps to realise the aims of this next-generation facility.

Slack & Parr s technologies are used in many composites manufacturing processes including coating, prepreg, filament winding and spraying, as well as in extruder-based processes most commonly used in the manufacture of thermoplastic composites.
