Albany Engineered Composites, Hexcel and Nammo Composite Solutions have partnered with USA Bobsled & Skeleton (USABS) and aerospace and defense industry organization 47G to develop next-generation bobsled technology for Team USA. Announced on October 28, 2026, at 47G’s Zero Gravity Summit in Salt Lake City, Utah, the collaboration will apply advanced composite materials and aerospace manufacturing expertise to sleds intended for the 2034 and 2038 Winter Olympic Games.

Albany Engineered Composites will work with USABS to design and manufacture the next-generation composite bobsleds. The development effort will focus on equipment performance factors such as weight, strength, aerodynamics and structural design, which can influence results in a sport where athletes compete for differences measured in hundredths of a second. Hexcel will contribute its advanced composite materials expertise, while Nammo Composite Solutions will design and manufacture carbon-fiber cowlings for Team USA’s two-man bobsleds.

The partnership draws on technologies and manufacturing experience developed for demanding aerospace and defense applications. Composite materials are widely used in these sectors because of their combination of low weight, strength and durability. The participating manufacturers aim to apply these material and engineering capabilities to improve bobsled performance.

“Advanced composite technology has helped transform aerospace by enabling engineers to design components that are strong, lightweight and capable of performing in some of the most demanding environments,” said Jeff Daniel, vice president, commercial segment at Albany Engineered Composites.

“Bringing that expertise to bobsled creates an exciting opportunity to apply what we have learned in aerospace to a completely different performance challenge. We are proud to work alongside USA Bobsled & Skeleton to develop technology that can support Team USA athletes on the road to 2034 and beyond.”

The collaboration also connects Utah’s aerospace and advanced manufacturing sector with its winter sports infrastructure. USABS athletes already train and compete at Utah Olympic Park in Park City, while the state prepares to host the 2034 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. The partnership is intended to demonstrate how expertise from aerospace, defense and advanced materials manufacturing can support innovation in competitive sports.

For Albany, the project extends its engineered composites capabilities into a new performance-driven application, bringing together materials development, component design and manufacturing for Team USA’s future bobsled program.
