WACKER will debut POWERSIL
1900 A/B, a new high-consistency silicone rubber specifically
designed for the production of composite hollow-core insulators with extruded
silicone housing, at the upcoming K 2025
International Trade Fair for Plastics and Rubber in Dusseldorf, Germany, from October 8 15,
2025.
Supplied as a ready-to-use 2K addition-curing system, POWERSIL
1900 A/B is optimized for spiral extrusion manufacturing, a process that
enables cost-effective production of even large-scale insulators with variable
diameters, including conical shapes often difficult to achieve with
conventional injection molding. This innovation allows manufacturers to produce
high-precision,
lightweight, and durable insulators for high-voltage
applications such as bushings, instrument transformers, circuit breakers, and
surge arresters.
The new material forms an electrically insulating silicone elastomer with
exceptional resistance to tracking, erosion, and arcing, while maintaining water- and
dirt-repellent surfaces that help eliminate the need for costly
cleaning operations. It retains excellent dielectric performance even in salty,
dusty, or high-humidity environments.
Thanks to its UV resistance, elasticity, and weather durability,
POWERSIL 1900 A/B enhances power grid resilience by withstanding extreme
weather, earthquakes, and vandalism better than traditional ceramic or glass
alternatives. Weight savings of up to 80% compared to porcelain insulators also simplify
installation.
Silicone elastomers have long been a staple in high-voltage
engineering due to their hydrophobicity transfer, which prevents conductive
layers from forming and reduces the risk of flashovers. WACKER s new POWERSIL
1900 A/B continues this tradition, offering a next-generation solution for the
evolving needs of global power transmission infrastructure.
