Swansea Investment Holdings
(3708) has joined forces with Siemens Gamesa and global energy major RWE
to deploy recyclable epoxy resin (EzCiclo) in turbine blades for the UK s
Sofia offshore wind farm, setting a new benchmark for sustainable
offshore energy.
Swansea Investment Holdings
announced on August 29 that recyclable blades manufactured with Siemens
Gamesa s EzCiclo resin will be used at the Sofia offshore wind farm, a
flagship project in the North Sea. With a total installed capacity of
1,400MW, the project will feature Siemens SG14-222 wind turbines, each
capable of generating up to 14MW, with blades measuring up to 108
meters.
The recyclable epoxy resin is
produced at Swancor s Taiwan facility and will be applied to blades for
up to 50 turbines. This innovation enables a recyclability rate of
more than 90%, making Sofia the world s first large-scale offshore wind
farm to integrate recyclable blade technology. The initiative addresses one
of the sector s biggest sustainability challenges, end-of-life turbine blade
disposal, while advancing circular economy goals.
Our collaboration with the Sofia
offshore wind farm demonstrates that recyclable resin technology is no longer
just a laboratory innovation, but a real-world solution for the global offshore
wind industry, said Cai Xiaode, General Manager of Swansea Investment
Holdings. He added that the company will continue to invest in pioneering
R&D, international partnerships, and diversified green energy ventures to
accelerate the industry s low-carbon transition.
