Spintech Holdings, Inc. has announced a $7 million investment to expand its high-volume manufacturing operations in Miamisburg, Ohio, adding 53,000 square feet of dedicated space for the production of advanced aerospace components. The expansion brings Spintech s total operational footprint to 90,000 square feet, with the new facility focusing on airframe production for critical defense and commercial unmanned systems.

The investment includes significant spending on machinery and equipment, supporting the company s transition from a tooling-focused business, through its Smart Tooling division, to a full-scale manufacturer of composite structural airframes under the Hawthorn Composites brand, launched in 2021. This shift was catalyzed by the U.S. Department of Defense s increasing demand for low-cost unmanned aircraft systems (UAS).

Hawthorn Composites has since delivered parts for six major UAS platforms, progressing from concept to high-rate production, supplying up to 533 airframes per month. The new facility will also include a Systems Integration Lab (SIL) compliant with CUI, MOSA, and WOSA standards, enabling rapid integration and fielding of new technologies in collaboration with the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) and defense contractors.

This expansion is a major milestone in our evolution as a key supplier to the U.S. defense ecosystem, said Spintech leadership. Our vertically integrated approach to composite manufacturing is enabling agile development and deployment of next-generation unmanned systems.

Looking ahead, Spintech plans to add another 160,000 square feet across two additional facilities by 2027 to support U.S. DOD program ramp-ups. Through Hawthorn Composites, the company is also actively pursuing new contracts and developing value-added services, including integration solutions and advanced manufacturing processes, to expand its defense and commercial UAS market presence over the next 12 months.
