On July 10, Italian sustainable composites startup Northern Light Composites (nlcomp) officially launched construction of rFactory, its first industrial production facility in Monfalcone, Italy. The 500-square-meter plant, built entirely with sustainable materials, including wood and nlcomp s recyclable composites, represents a pivotal milestone as the company scales beyond the marine industry into wind energy and advanced materials sectors.

The rFactory will feature a production line capable of manufacturing sustainable composite components up to 20 meters in length. The facility will also house office space, design labs, and collaboration areas for industrial partners.

The first product to roll off the line will be the Offshore 34 racing sailboat, designed by Gianluca Guelfi and Fabio D Angeli and constructed with nlcomp s proprietary sustainable resins under the Northern Light brand.

CEO Fabio Bignolini emphasized the significance of the moment, stating, We will finally have the ability to produce entirely in-house, completing our transition from startup to established business.

With financial backing of 1.2 million from prominent investors and support from CDP Venture Capital and Zest s Zero Acceleration Program, nlcomp, along with strategic partner Samer Group, is positioning rFactory as a springboard for broader adoption of circular composites in both marine and renewable energy applications.
