Kautex Textron GmbH & Co. KG (Kautex), a subsidiary of Textron Inc. (NYSE: TXT), has announced it has received a major order from a leading automotive OEM for a full-BEV thermoplastic composite lower battery housing unit. The component is part of the company s award-winning Pentatonic battery enclosure portfolio, designed for battery electric and hybrid electric vehicles.
The Pentatonic product line delivers lightweight, customizable EV solutions made from thermoplastic composites or composite-metal hybrids, offering enhanced thermal management, structural performance, and extended driving range.
The newly ordered lower battery housing is engineered to seal and protect the battery while meeting stringent structural and thermal requirements, including crush and bottom impact tests, as well as external and internal fire tests. The housing will serve as a major BEV platform that spans multiple vehicle brands.
Compared with conventional metal housings, Kautex s thermoplastic composite solution offers cost advantages by reducing component count through high functional integration, resulting in a leaner bill of materials. The material also lowers the carbon footprint of the part while its lightweight nature improves vehicle efficiency and reduces emissions in use. The multi-material design ensures corrosion resistance without compromising performance over the vehicle s lifetime.
We are thrilled to announce our latest order from a leading automotive OEM, marking a significant milestone for Kautex, said Joerg Rautenstrauch, President & CEO, Kautex. Our innovative BEV lower housing is a testament to our dedication to safety, performance, and sustainability.
This is Kautex s second Pentatonic business win, following its January 2023 order for a full-BEV underbody protection skid plate now in serial production. Pentatonic products have received multiple awards, including the SPE Grand Innovation Award (Europe), and the Lingxuan and Gasgoo Innovation Awards (China). Kautex has also deployed test vehicles in the US, Japan, and Europe, logging over 100,000 miles to validate BEV and hybrid Pentatonic enclosure performance across varied terrains and climates.
