Archer Aviation has made two acquisitions to accelerate development of its next-generation defense aircraft, building on its December 2024 partnership with Anduril to co-develop hybrid, autonomous VTOL military platforms and a recent $1.3 billion capital raise.
The company acquired a patent portfolio and key personnel from Overair, a tiltrotor-technology spin-off of Karem Aircraft, to meet growing demand from allied defense programs. Separately, Archer purchased composite manufacturing equipment and a roughly 60,000-square-foot facility from Mission Critical Composites in Southern California, bringing high-performance composite fabrication in-house for faster prototyping.
The moves come as the Pentagon has requested $13.4 billion for autonomous military systems. Archer's founder and CEO said the acquisitions support the company's push to speed up product development for national security needs.
