R&M International Acquires Vartega Technology to Scale Recycled Carbon Fiber Production

R&M International has acquired Vartega’s patented carbon fiber recovery technology and EasyFeed platform to expand recycled carbon fiber supply for thermoplastic applications.

R&M International Sales Corporation has acquired Vartega’s patented carbon fiber recovery technology, technical know-how, and processing capability for its EasyFeed Bundles, adding up to 1,000 tons of annual production capacity for recycled carbon fiber (rCF). The acquisition is aimed at expanding the supply of recycled carbon fiber for thermoplastic compounders and automotive manufacturers.

Vartega’s EasyFeed Bundles are engineered recycled-carbon-fiber feedstocks designed to replace virgin carbon fiber in commodity, engineering-grade, and high-performance thermoplastics. The bundles are produced from reclaimed carbon fiber and formatted for consistent handling and dispersion in injection molding and additive manufacturing. They are compatible with resins including polypropylene, nylon, polycarbonate, and PEEK.

The technology is already being used in major electric and internal combustion engine automotive programs, where recycled carbon fiber can provide lightweighting and structural performance while reducing material costs and environmental impact. R&M said it will continue supplying the EasyFeed platform to compounders and manufacturers as it scales production.

R&M, a family-owned raw-material recycler founded in 1977 and headquartered in Norristown, Pennsylvania, said the acquisition extends its nearly five-decade recycling business into advanced composite materials. The company is already fulfilling EasyFeed orders following the acquisition.

Vartega, which has spent the past 12 years developing sustainable composites technologies, will transfer its EasyFeed platform to R&M as the company expands access to recycled carbon fiber for automotive and other manufacturing applications.
