Guangdong Nata Functional Fiber Co., Ltd. has joined the newly established Guangdong Province Carbon Fiber Composite Materials Industry Innovation Alliance as an initiating member, supporting efforts to strengthen the region’s carbon fiber supply chain. The alliance was established on October 16, 2026, in Shenzhen, alongside the inauguration of the Guangdong Province High-Performance Fiber and Composite Materials Manufacturing Innovation Center, which is being established, and the opening of the Shenzhen High-Performance Composite Materials Innovation Park.

The three initiatives are intended to create a collaborative framework connecting material producers, manufacturers, universities, research institutions, and government bodies. Guangdong is a major Chinese market for carbon fiber, accounting for approximately one-third of national demand, according to the company announcement. The new platforms aim to connect research and development with pilot production, testing, and industrial applications.

The manufacturing innovation center will be led by Shenzhen Guangda Tongxin Innovative Materials Co., Ltd. Its planned capabilities include a 100-tonne production line for high-modulus and high-strength carbon fibers, alongside a technical database for high-modulus grades. The center aims to address gaps in local high-end carbon fiber capabilities and establish a technical pathway spanning raw materials, processing, and end-use applications.

The Shenzhen High-Performance Composite Materials Innovation Park will provide infrastructure for research, pilot-scale manufacturing, testing, and application development. It is intended to support collaboration between upstream fiber suppliers and downstream composite manufacturers, helping move material technologies from laboratory development toward industrial production.

Guangdong Nata’s participation focuses on the upstream supply of carbon fiber precursor materials and high-performance fibers. The company is planning a project with an annual capacity of 10,000 tonnes of carbon fiber and differentiated acrylic fibers. Its stated development priorities include improving precursor stability, scaling production, and enhancing raw-material quality to support more consistent downstream carbon fiber manufacturing.

Through the alliance, Guangdong Nata plans to participate in technical exchanges, collaborative research and development, and industry standardisation. Greater coordination between precursor producers, carbon fiber manufacturers, and composite processors could help address raw-material supply constraints and improve integration across the regional value chain.

The initiative identifies low-altitude aviation, new-energy equipment, and advanced rail transportation as potential application areas for high-performance fibers. Progress will depend on the development of the new facilities, the scale-up of manufacturing processes, and the ability to meet the material performance and quality requirements of downstream industries.
