Touchstone Advanced Composites is supporting Northrop Grumman s YFQ-48A Talon Blue Collaborative Combat Aircraft programme by supplying advanced composite tooling materials for aircraft development and manufacturing.

The company is providing its proprietary CFOAM carbon foam-based tooling system, which is used to manufacture precision molds for aerospace composite components. The material is designed to deliver high thermal stability, dimensional accuracy, and adaptability across prototype and early production stages.

CFOAM is produced from domestically sourced bituminous coal and is engineered for use in aerospace tooling applications where rapid modification and thermal performance are critical to iterative aircraft design cycles.

Northrop Grumman is developing the YFQ-48A Talon Blue as a modular and cost-efficient autonomous combat aircraft intended for scalable production and rapid deployment in collaborative operations. The program emphasizes manufacturing flexibility and streamlined transition from prototyping to production.

Touchstone s tooling technology is positioned to support this development approach by enabling faster design iteration cycles and reducing constraints in composite part fabrication.

The collaboration highlights increasing use of advanced composite tooling systems in defence aerospace programs, where speed, scalability, and manufacturing efficiency are becoming central to next-generation aircraft development strategies.
