Toray Water has launched two advanced nanofiltration membrane element models, NE8040-XDM and NE8040-90F, worldwide in July 2026. Developed and manufactured by Toray Advanced Materials Korea, the membranes combine high impurity removal with enhanced chemical durability for demanding water treatment applications.
The NE8040-XDM is designed for industrial wastewater treatment and features a proprietary structure that delivers up to 5× higher chemical resistance and 10% higher divalent-ion separation performance than baseline offerings. The membrane is suited to applications involving frequent chemical cleaning, including minimal liquid discharge (MLD) and zero liquid discharge (ZLD) systems, while also providing high sulfate-ion rejection.
The NE8040-90F is a low-pressure membrane designed for advanced water purification. It combines high removal efficiency for PFAS and other trace hazardous substances with high permeate flow, potentially reducing energy and operating costs in water purification and reuse processes.
The new membrane lineup addresses growing demand for technologies supporting industrial wastewater reuse, resource recovery, and water purification amid increasing pressure on global water resources and stricter environmental regulations. Applications for the NE8040-90F include water softening and hardness removal, total organic carbon and trihalomethane reduction, PFAS and organic matter removal, and treatment for food and beverage, municipal drinking water, and water reuse applications.
Toray said it will continue developing membrane technologies around specific market requirements to improve water-resource efficiency and help stabilize water supplies globally.
