The partnership will focus on developing lightweight composite structures and manufacturing processes suited to electric aircraft. Reducing structural weight is particularly important for electric aviation because lower mass can help improve aircraft efficiency and extend available flight range.
Sykes Advanced Manufacturing brings expertise in composite materials, additive manufacturing, CNC machining, and advanced engineering. Its manufacturing capabilities are intended to support Kite as the aircraft program moves from development toward production.
The companies will also work on manufacturing approaches designed to improve repeatability, scalability, and production efficiency. Combining composite structures with advanced manufacturing can enable complex geometries while reducing tooling requirements and supporting the integration of lightweight components.
The collaboration forms part of Kite Aero’s broader effort to develop a new generation of electric aircraft, with advanced materials and manufacturing expected to play an important role in achieving the required structural performance and weight targets.
By combining Kite Aero’s aircraft development with Sykes’ composite and advanced manufacturing capabilities, the partnership aims to establish production-ready processes for lightweight aerospace structures as the electric aviation program progresses.
