Joby Aviation has agreed to acquire a roughly 700,000-square-foot manufacturing facility in Dayton, Ohio, its second Ohio site and third overall alongside its California operations, as it works to double aircraft output to four units per month by 2027. The facility supports Joby's shift from low-rate initial production to higher-volume manufacturing of its composite-heavy eVTOL air taxi structures, building on propeller blade production Joby has already expanded in Ohio.
Joby's founder and CEO framed the site as both near-term production support and a base for future growth, tying it to Dayton's aerospace history. Ohio's governor and several federal and state lawmakers welcomed the investment as reinforcing the state's aerospace manufacturing base and creating jobs.
The expansion comes as U.S. transportation officials pursue a national advanced air mobility strategy, with the FAA and DOT planning to roll out an eVTOL Integration Pilot Program in 2026 to validate operational routes ahead of full aircraft certification.
