GKN Aerospace has unveiled a new uncrewed aerial vehicle (UAV) demonstrator developed within the first year of its program, demonstrating an accelerated approach to designing and manufacturing next-generation aircraft structures.
The demonstrator is being developed as part of GKN Aerospace's efforts to advance rapid, scalable manufacturing technologies for uncrewed systems. The program brings together digital design, advanced manufacturing and composite technologies to shorten the time between initial aircraft concepts and physical flight-ready hardware.
A key element of the demonstrator is its use of advanced composite structures, which provide the lightweight characteristics needed for UAV platforms while allowing engineers greater freedom to optimize aerodynamic and structural configurations. Composite manufacturing techniques also support the integration of complex geometries while reducing the number of individual components required.
