Exel Composites and Suzlon Energy Limited have expanded their collaboration through a new multi-year supply agreement for pultruded carbon fiber planks used in wind turbine blade spar caps. The agreement covers deliveries through March 2029, with the companies estimating the potential value of future deliveries at more than EUR 100 million at the time of signing.

Under the agreement, Exel's India-based joint venture, Kineco Exel Composites India (KECI), will supply an agreed share of Suzlon's requirements for the covered products. The final value and delivery volumes will depend on Suzlon's production requirements and resulting orders.

The carbon fiber planks are manufactured using pultrusion, a continuous composite manufacturing process that produces reinforced profiles with consistent dimensions and mechanical properties. In wind turbine blades, the planks are incorporated into spar caps, which provide structural stiffness and carry major bending loads generated during turbine operation.

The use of carbon fiber composites becomes increasingly important as wind turbine blades grow longer. Carbon fiber offers high specific stiffness and strength, allowing blade structures to withstand operational loads while limiting structural weight. Pultruded profiles also provide a continuous manufacturing route for producing long, consistent composite components.

The agreement builds on a collaboration that began in 2024, when Exel and Suzlon entered an initial two-year supply agreement. The partnership subsequently led to an approximately EUR 10 million purchase order announced by Exel in February 2025. Suzlon's identity was not disclosed when that order was announced.

All products covered by the new agreement will be manufactured at Kineco Exel's factory in India. The facility was established to serve the wind power sector in India and international markets. The longer-term supply arrangement provides a framework for continued production ramp-up and capacity utilization at the plant.

Amit Agrawal, Senior Vice President, Global Procurement at Suzlon Energy, said the agreement strengthens the companies' cooperation and highlighted reliable supply, consistent product quality, and local manufacturing capability as important factors for Suzlon's wind turbine blade programs.

Shekhar Sardessai, Chairman of Kineco and Managing Director of Kineco Exel, said the agreement supports the company's position in pultrusion and advanced carbon fiber composite manufacturing as India's wind energy sector expands. Paul Sohlberg, President and CEO of Exel Composites, said the agreement also provides greater visibility into production capacity and supports the continued ramp-up of the Indian facility.

The agreement extends the use of pultruded carbon fiber composite profiles in wind blade structural components while strengthening local composite manufacturing capacity in India. Its potential value of more than EUR 100 million also provides an indication of the scale of the planned supply relationship through March 2029.
