Altair, working with the Center for Automotive Research (CAR), announced the winners of its 2025 Enlighten Award, honoring lightweighting innovations that cut carbon footprint, reduce water and energy use, and support material reuse. Winners were recognized at CAR's Management Briefing Seminars in Detroit on September 16, 2025, across seven categories: Future of Lightweighting, Enabling Technology, Module Lightweighting, Sustainable Computing, Sustainable Process, Sustainable Product, and Responsible AI.
Notable winners included Vortex CAE for a crash-optimization solver credited with cutting body-in-white mass by 77% in a case study; Magna for a hemp-based nylon composite roof rack developed with BASF and Heartland; CompositeEdge and ATA Mute for an ultra-thin, highly sound-absorbent acoustic material; and Syensqo and Geely for a PPA-based e-motor stator cooling design that cut weight by 47% and cost by 36% versus metal. Other winners spanned adhesive-wastewater recycling at Marelli, a longer-lasting battery-pack coating from NIO and AkzoNobel, and AI-driven crash-prediction and engineering-automation tools from Lucid.
Altair's chief technology officer said the 13-year-old award continues to showcase the industry's most significant sustainability achievements, while CAR's president called it a platform for spotlighting practical, forward-looking solutions.
