Italian engineering company ADDYX has launched the STRATO-V (Structured Tank Reinforced with Advanced TOwpreg – Type 5) project with Comec Innovative and the University of L’Aquila. The initiative aims to develop a new generation of Type V pressurized tanks using advanced composite materials and manufacturing technologies.
The project focuses on combining advanced composites with tow-preg technology to develop pressure vessels with reduced weight while maintaining the mechanical performance required for demanding pressurized applications. Type V tanks differ from conventional composite pressure vessels by using a fully composite structure without a metallic liner.
STRATO-V will also incorporate digital engineering tools into the development process. The approach is intended to support the design and optimization of composite structures while improving manufacturing efficiency and enabling more sustainable tank solutions.
The collaboration brings together ADDYX’s engineering capabilities with the expertise of Comec Innovative and the University of L’Aquila. The partners will conduct research and development activities over the coming months, with the project supported through the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) 2021–2027 program under Interventions 1.1.1.2 and 1.1.2.1.
Through STRATO-V, the partners are targeting lightweight, high-performance and sustainable Type V composite pressure vessel technology, with the work expected to advance materials, manufacturing and digital engineering approaches for next-generation tank structures.
