Nassimi has launched Hyphyn, a performance vinyl developed over six years and designed to biodegrade in landfill conditions without releasing microplastics, PFAS, or toxic residues; it debuted at NeoCon 2025 in Chicago. The material uses a patented enzyme system and proprietary resin formulation to achieve over 90% biodegradation within 24 months under simulated landfill conditions, while retaining the durability and cleanability expected of commercial vinyl for sectors like healthcare, hospitality, education and retail.
Nassimi's executive vice president said the goal was to rethink vinyl's lifecycle rather than just create something new, addressing long-term environmental impacts that other vinyl products haven't tackled. As it decomposes in landfills, Hyphyn breaks down into inert gases that can be captured for energy, and the material is also engineered to burn cleanly without producing dioxins.
Hyphyn underwent five-part third-party testing covering material safety (free of heavy metals, PFAS and formaldehyde, compliant with Prop 65, RoHS and REACH), biodegradation rate, post-biodegradation soil toxicity, soil health effects, and indoor air quality, with no detectable release of over 1,000 monitored toxic substances after biodegradation.
